At last I had treated myself to a lesson at the Paul Foston Golf Academy in Smarden, Kent. It had been on my “to do” list a long time, just wish I had done it earlier. What a tremendous experience. Met by Paul, and instantly put at ease with a cup of coffee and a chat about what I wanted from the day. Then out to the superb set-up at the Academy. I mainly wanted short game lessons which this is so well catered for it has to be seen to be believed. A Huxley putting green, complete with suitable borrows, a two-tiered chipping green, deep and shallow bunkers all there to provide the situation for every shot you may need.

There are also further stations for mid-range pitch shots, all set among a wonderful array of trees, small lakes and shrubs. Add to this Paul’s readily understood instruction given with humour and obvious enthusiasm and you having a winning formula. I also made use of his state of the art indoor facility to check up on my long game. The latest GASP computers and screens give you instant detailed feedback on your swing with Paul’s vastly experienced knowledge coaxing you down the correct path.

If you want to improve your golf equipment, then a fitting service is available as well. This is the most fantastic set-up for teaching and thus learning. As a retired PGA teaching professional myself, oh how I would have given my eye teeth for this 5-star Academy

I have been playing golf for 30 years and over the years have had a number of coaches. I had my first lesson with Paul recently as I felt frustrated that on occasions I played far worse than my 7 handicap, especially in strong wind due to my excessively high ball flight.

After one lesson with Paul I had a far better understanding of what my problem was and the improvement under Paul’s guidance was instant allowing me the very next week to win a Society Tournament on the South Course at La Manga ,playing of 5, in a stiff breeze which wouldn’t have happened before.

I will definitely be continuing with my lessons and would recommend anyone looking to improve their game to take time to visit Paul

We have just spent the most amazing three days with Paul on an intensive course. We were worried that with so much instruction we wouldn’t be able to take it all in, but we both came away with positive improvements to our game. The course was very varied with his indoor Academy, outside short game practice area and the facility to go off and have a 9 hole course lesson. Since we have returned home Paul has emailed us videos of our lessons with instructions which we can dip into when we need to remind ourselves of something. He and Angie were brilliant hosts. We had a beautiful room with ensuite bathroom, and a sitting room with a balcony overlooking the gardens. Beautiful 5* accommodation for anyone to stay!

As teaching Pro’s go, Paul Foston is sensational!

If my memory serves me correctly I used to be a good golfer, but that was many years ago. I have tried having lessons with many other Pro’s to no real benefit. However I spent 3 hours with Paul and I now believe I can become something of the golfer I was. He has re-ignited both desire and hope!

I also invited a group of clients for a day at the Paul Foston Golf Academy which combines a first class teaching experience in an exclusive environment with a challenge for every aspect of your game. My clients said it was by far the most enjoyable corporate golf event they had attended.

I have been playing golf for over 50 years both as an amateur and, for a short time, as a qualified European Tour player. Paul started coaching me when I was in my early 20’s and I have never looked back. Now, at almost 59, I have been able to maintain a plus handicap. This is mostly down to Paul being able to change, over a period of time, my swing to accommodate my physical abilities as a player. Not the easiest of tasks. It is not just his technical ability and communication skills as a teacher but his insurmountable enthusiasm that feeds your confidence. A quality that is very hard to find these days.

Since 2005, Paul has had an Academy set up in Smarden and he has recently updated his equipment with two high speed 200 fps cameras. These cameras, along with a new swing analysis software GASP5, provide clear and stable images that enhance the lesson experience. He has also added new screens to help analyse and understand your golf swing. On the wall are two plasma screens, one displaying your swing from the front and behind and the other with Flightscope results (also projected on the screen in the net). A very useful addition is a third screen on the floor in front of you. You can watch yourself practise a swing change without having to raise your head to view the screen on the wall.

Not only does Paul have all this in a converted barn but also, outside, there is a putting and chipping green perfect for short game practice. With two differently styled bunkers you have the complete short game area to train on all year round.

Paul also has a club fitting service. I had a fitting only a couple of years ago and am extremely happy with the outcome. So much so I have had friends from France of all golfing levels who have specially visited Paul for a fitting and lesson. They have all been impressed with his professionalism, skill as a teacher, enthusiasm and precision with custom fitting and have said that they will not go elsewhere. Paul also looks after my son, a budding golfer of 16 years of age and a 4 handicapper.

If I were to sum up what Paul’s strengths were apart from being a great teacher, it would be his dedication and enthusiasm. Whether you are a beginner or a touring professional you will get 100% out of him, every single time.

Paul has fantastic short game facilities

that have given me the opportunity to learn to deal with most situations that I am likely to encounter around the green on any course. I now have the confidence to deal with any trouble that I find myself in and ladies that I play with frequently comment on my good short game.

Having the advantage of an indoor studio with video analysis and visual feedback, I have also found invaluable to make the necessary changes to my game because as you know, what we think we are doing is not what we are actually doing! It is great to know that I can have lessons on my long game in the warmth of his studio during the winter when it is uninviting outside.

Paul Foston was recommended to me by a friend......

having been playing golf for a few years, I was stuck in a rut with no handicap cuts and what I though was a consistent swing.  It was apparent the all-important short game needed some work, and that's where Paul's expert tuition came into itself.

Having had coaching sessions with Paul at his first class academy facilities, things fell into place.  The putting was improved immeasurably.....Paul's guidance gave me such confidence standing over the ball and a much improved putting stroke.  What a difference it made!  We worked on the chipping and putting in the beautiful grounds, having the benefits of mats at varying distances with reasonable hazards to challenge the mind and perfect the technique around the green.  Every possible shot was worked on.......so important to be able to take that confidence to the course.  Best of all, the handicap soon started to come down!!!

And of course, not forgetting the amazing teaching facilities in the comfort of the warm studio - perfect for when you cannot get anywhere near a golf course in the long winter months.....such a lovely barn to be working on an ever improving golf swing. You can even choose to have a playing lesson, or work on gauging distance for your individual clubs at the local Weald of Kent Golf Club and practice range, where Paul has spent many years teaching.

With Paul's enthusiasm, expert knowledge, first class teaching program and passion for his clients to achieve their greatest potential........I couldn't recommend anything other than giving the Studio a call.......it’s well worth a visit.  I can guarantee you'll receive the warmest of welcomes from Paul........along with first class tuition and attention.

Paul was able to cover all aspects of the game in just one day

A thorough analysis of your swing and identification of exercises to improve, putting lesson, chipping and pitching, bunker shots. Thanks to the setup at his Academy Paul will show you which club and which shot to play from different positions around his tiered green.

For me living too far to visit Paul regularly, a real bonus was to go home with videos of my lesson with Paul's comments. Whatever your level I would highly recommend a one day course with Paul.

He is an enthusiastic teacher and wants every one of his pupils to improve. The facilities are excellent and those coupled with his teaching skills make for very good lessons.

Since my one day lesson just two weeks ago I have won my last two matches including beating a 10 hcp and I'm 29! I'm now planning a second day in a few week’s time.

Should anyone be thinking of “Booking Experience Golf in a day” it is well worth considering taking advantage of the accommodation offered, arrive the evening before and enjoy a gourmet 3 course meal, you will then be ready and relaxed to make the most of your full day with Paul.
